  • Beschrijving: The documentary black-and-white footage by filmmaker Ernst Hirsch shows reconstruction work in 1963 on historic buildings destroyed in the air raids on Dresden in 1945. Here, the restoration of the Georgentor, which began in 1963, is documented. The film also accompanies the installation of the altarpiece "Ascension of Christ" by court painter Anton Raphael Mengs above the high altar of the Cathedral of St. Trinitatis or Catholic Court Church, as well as the sinking of a time capsule in Hercules' globe on the rampart pavilion of the Zwinger on April 29, 1963 to mark the completion of the exterior reconstruction.
    This film was digitized as part of the model project "Sicherung des audiovisuellen Erbes in Sachsen" (Securing Audiovisual Heritage in Saxony) of the Film Association of Saxony (2018) in cooperation with: Hirsch Film Filmproduktion, Sächsische Landesbibliothek - Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek, funded by: Saxon State Ministry for Science and Art.
